Bianca noticed that time seemed to go by slower and slower each day. She had decided long ago to stop looking at clocks because that somehow only made it worse, but since she spent most days at her window, it was becoming easier to tell the time by the way the sun settled in the sky, and how the shadows moved across the carefully cut grass. The birds stopped and began chirping at different times, as well. It was common sense, but she knew when it would be down to the minute, usually. More dramatic girls would have likely made some sort of tally marks on the walls, but that would be just silly. She was a prisoner in her own home, that much was true, but it was indeed her home. She had free reign of the inside, at least. That much she was grateful for.
The garden was another place she was able to stay in. It was gated off, so there was no way that a girl who obeyed the rules would escape from it, and no one would see her there, either. Today, she was entertaining herself by tending to the flowers. It was wonderful to see something blossom and bloom in such a lovely way in such a contained area. If they could flourish, Bianca thought, so could she. Carefully, Bianca pulled weeds that were strangling the life out of the plants, while a chipmunk sat at her side. "Do you see this?" She asked the small creature. "These dandelions, although quite lovely themselves, want to harm the rose for merely trying to blossom. Is it really so devious of the rose to be born so beautiful?" She sighed softly, and shook her head. "Listen to me. I sound so narcissistic. I don't mean it that way.. You know that..don't you?"
The chipmunk chittered, and she laughed, offering the small creature a light pat on the head with her index finger. "You're right. I think i'm alone so often that my ego is becoming a completely new person for me to befriend." She went back to the weeding, when she suddenly felt something piercing her skin. She quietly gasped, and looked down at her finger and sighed. "And there it is.. my karma. The thorn of the rose.." It stung, but she couldn't help but smile. "I guess I deserved that."
